When it comes to a business headshot it’s important to understand the best outfits and colors to wear to make your portrait the best it can be. Now if you don’t know what colors work well for you, begin with a simple Google search to see lists of colors for various skin tones such as this link.
There is a lot of information out there dealing with best colors for skin tones and even colors based on skin, hair and body shape. Solid colors work best—avoid crazy patterns—they distract they eye. Small stripes or patterns can be okay but solid colors pretty much rule in this area.
Next decide what exactly to wear for your portrait with those colors—are you going for just a head and shoulder shot? Then it’s important to look great form the mid chest area up. This may mean ties and/or a jacket for guys and dressy blouse for women. If just a head and shoulders shot women watch for low cut blouses—they’ll get cropped in many profile pictures and not look all that great.
Going for more portrait options? With 3/4 and full length more style matters. What are you wanting to convey in the images? Business dress, business casual, casual? For sleeves—go long—for men and women— you can choose to roll them up a bit but unless you have fabulous tanned and toned arms it’s best to cover them.
If you’re doing more than our basic headshot then bring a choice of 4-6 outfits. You’ll not necessarily get to wear them all but it’s always nice to have choices. Have questions? We’d be happy to assist you in deterring what to wear for your headshot.
