Let me start out by saying that though we shoot a lot of commercial photography for businesses we don’t really shoot product. So why a blog about product? We are first and foremost a people portrait specialist. That said we do photograph product—just with people using, wearing or otherwise interacting with a product.

Recently we completed a series of photo shoots for a local hat millinery. This is for a hat designer who creates custom couture hats for women. These hats could have been photographed individually on hat stands—in fact we did do this for a catalog for the website—however we wanted to convey the “cool factor” of these hats so set up the shots to try to convey that message. These will be used for website as well as marketing materials. We’re also in the process of also producing a video for them, more on that in a future blog post.

Bring Hats Back

Hats come in and out of style all the time. Recently there is a bit of a push to bring them back. Mens hats have come back in a big way but women’s hats are a bit behind—being popular in mostly the southern areas of the country. This hat designer—KAM Colorado — wants to bring back women’s hats with her custom creations. So we set about to create marketing images that convey that message.

Working with the client we assisted in selecting models for the shoot then brought the client in during the session to make sure we were getting exactly what they were looking for. Take a peak behind the scenes in the video below.
