Hair And Makeup For Your Headshot

Having the right hair and makeup is critical to having a great headshot. For men as well as women. For men we recommend a light neutral powder—we have some in the studio—to remove shine if any.

We work with several local hair and makeup artists (HMUA) to ensure that our clients have the right look for being in front of the camera. Now you may be happy applying your own makeup and that's acceptable. We get headshot clients all the time that either apply their own or have hair and makeup done before coming to the studio. If you do your own makeup try to avoid makeup with SPF in it. SPF isn’t designed for studio lighting and can sometimes make you appear more shiny on camera. We do offer light foundation powder if you need a little extra during the session. If you work with a HMUA here at the studio they will stay for the first few minutes of your session to make sure that your makeup looks fantastic in front of the lights and camera.

If you do want to use a makeup artist that we recommend they will come to the studio so that you may step from their chair right into getting your portrait taken. for a link to our recommendations.

You will want to allow plenty of time for makeup if working with a professional makeup artist. We recommend at minimum an hour. If you book a session with an HMUA that we recommend plan to arrive about an hour and 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment so you have plenty of time in their chair then time to change into the outfit you want for your portraits. Please let us know when you are planning to use a HMUA so that we can plan accordingly on our end.

In business you want to put your best foot forward so plan out your hair and makeup as well as your wardrobe.
