Why Your Headshot Matters On LinkedIn

Your headshot matters on LinkedIn. Why? Because research has shown that that's one of the first places employers will look at prospective employees. And if you’re in business others want to “meet” you online before they do business with you. And remember that you literally have seconds to make an impression with your headshot. A good clean headshot can really stand out. Not a selfie, not a photo from your vacation but a professionally done headshot is important. This is why we coach headshot clients on what to wear so that nothing is distracting to your face.

On LinkedIn you get better milage if you have your profile completely filled out. Your contact info—and you can set your privacy settings on who can see that—your “About” section should tell succinctly what it is you do or if you are job hunting your best skills.  Don’t just list list all your achievements and past jobs. Share any photos or videos that pertain to your business or your skills if you’re looking to get hired.

Make sure you have your settings in such a way that people can see your headshot. For me, I leave my profile visibility open to others I'm not connected to. Why? If someone is searching for me or my company do I want them to see an outline of a headshot? No, I'd rather them see me. So full profile open and also leave it open on other sites related to LinkedIn so you can be found. Hard to be employed or do business with others if you cannot be found. Always make it easy for you to be hired or do business with.

So if you have a great current headshot on LinkedIn and a detailed profile you should be good to go. If not—then contact us to get an updated look.
