Classic Black And White Sessions

What’s old is new again. When photography started it was only black and white then along came color and we never looked back. Sure a lot of photojournalism was still in black and white but portraiture by and large reverted to color. Black and white comes in and out of style from time to time —it has a certain cool factor. But in reality many photographers love black and white because it strips away the distractions of color and focuses on the subject. The lighting and shadows only enhance the subject matter.

We choose to offer black and white portraiture because of it’s simplicity. These sessions are done only in studio and are a different business model from our headshot work. Thought done sometimes for commercial use these are by and large commissioned portraits for people wanting a great piece of wall art.

Not Just Clicking A Button

With the advent of Instagram and the various filters you can click a button and change the look of your image. True classic black and white isn’t created that way—even in the day of digital imagery. Classic black and white portraiture begins with planning wardrobe, backgrounds and lighting. The post production isn’t clicking a button to convert the image from color to black and white but rather a lengthy series of steps to create and image that reflects the classic beauty of film created black and white images.

Archival Treasure

The final form is an archival printed matted and framed piece that you can hang on your wall and enjoy—not just today but pass down to the next generation. If you are interested in commissioning a fine art black and white portrait call the studio @719-475-0160 or email and we’ll get the ball rolling with a consultation. For more black and white go here.
